Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), through its Forestry Department, provides information and technical advice on forestry and gathers, analyses and disseminates forest-related information of all kinds. FAO chairs the CPF. At the regional level, FAO supports six regional forestry commissions, one each for Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe, the Near East, and North America.

IUFRO has a long and fruitful partnership with FAO. Examples of cooperation include the establishment of the Forestry Research Network for Sub-Saharan Africa (FORNESSA) as well as the collaboration between FAO and the IUFRO Special Programme for Developing Countries (IUFRO-SPDC) in the African, Asian and Latin American regions. IUFRO also co-organizes a range of international meetings with FAO. Moreover, IUFRO is collaborating closely with FAO, CIFOR and other partners in the context of the joint CPF initiative GFIS.
