Assistant/Associate Professor of Plant-Associated Molecular Mycology // 15 August 2024

The Department of Plant Pathology, The Ohio State University, is inviting applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Plant-Associated Molecular Mycology. The Department's aim is to recruit, support, and retain a scholar who will develop a strong, interdisciplinary, nationally and internationally recognized research and teaching program focused on fungi and/or oomycetes that interact with plants. To that end, we encourage applications from scholars whose research interests and experience may include, but are not limited to, the evolution of fungicide resistance, molecular plant-microbe interactions, population genomics, metagenomics, functional genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics of fungal and/or oomycete pathogens. Programs that use emerging computational and data-analytic approaches are highly desirable. The incumbent will be expected to seek both internal and external research support funds and training grants from government, industry, and other appropriate sources. The incumbent will become an integral part of the Department of Plant Pathology academic program and interact with and enhance a strong mycology community at Ohio State in support of the new undergraduate Minor in Mycology by developing or participating in courses as appropriate. The incumbent will teach/co-teach a course in Plant Pathogenic Fungi and associated laboratory, and develop a mycology-themed course of broad interest to diverse undergraduate students.

Institution:  Department of Plant Pathology, The Ohio State University
Duty Station:  Columbus, Ohio, USA
Closing date:  15 August 2024. Review of applications will continue until the position has been filled.

PhD Position in Forest Growth Projection and Sampling // 1 May 2024

For many forests of the world, growth models and growth data are vital to plan adaptation strategies under climate change. In reality, both are limited to certain tree species, ecosystem types, and geographical regions. Thus, there is an immediate need to extend the coverage of growth models and data. To do so, we need a projection system that can easily calibrate existing growth models in real-time with incoming growth data from forest ecosystems without a model. Moreover, a cost-effective and efficient inventory system for monitoring forest growth is needed that can be deployed over large areas in such forest ecosystems to complement the projection system. The Department of Forest Resources Management, University of British Columbia, is looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and independent person for a four-year funded PhD position. The overall aims of the position are to develop a projection system based on particle filtering to effectively predict long-term forest growth and an inventory system based on variable probability sampling to efficiently estimate the growth. The preferred start date is September 2024.
