Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development is the 'greenest' University in Brandenburg. It is located 60 km northeast of Berlin in a unique landscape with forests and lakes. With its 16 programmes, HNEE has a very distinctive profile dedicated to sustainable economic activity.
Eberswalde University has a long tradition in higher education in forestry. It was founded in 1830 as one of the first high schools for forestry in Germany. Moreover, Eberswalde is the place where IUFRO was founded in 1892.
Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development is distinguished by its short study programmes and the intensive relationship to practice in the classroom.
This applies to all programmes of the four faculties that are at two locations in Eberswalde.
On Bachelor level study programmes comprise forestry, land use planning and nature conservation, ecological agriculture, wood technology and economics. Moreover, several Master study programmes, such as forest information technology, global change management and sustainable tourism are offered.
HNEE is a dynamic university in research covering the fields of forest conservation, renewable energies, climate change, sustainable development, ecological agriculture, regional economic development and tourism. Many research projects are large interdisciplinary projects. There is a considerable network of cooperating partners in the region but also abroad.

The IUFRO membership enables HNEE to benefit from the leading forest research network in the world. Several university members already contribute to IUFRO working groups.
