IUFRO Event at the Asia Pacific Forestry Week, Hanoi, Vietnam, April 2008

Over the past several years IUFRO has implemented various initiatives that aim at promoting the interactions between forest science and policy, and the dissemination of scientific knowledge to policy makers, practitioners and stakeholders. The latest developments and results obtained in these initiatives will be presented and discussed in the following three sessions:

• Science Policy Interfacing with presentations and discussions on best practices for effective science-policy interactions and training on the subject in developing countries;
  
  
• Joint CPF Initiative on Forest Science and Technology launched in April 2007 as a new mechanism to support international forest-related processes through the assessment of available scientific information and production of reports on forest-related issues of high concern; and
  
  
• Global Forest Information Service (GFIS) in Asia, a collaborative initiative led by IUFRO that allows sharing of forest-related information through a single gateway at http://www.gfis.net. The information resources accessible through GFIS are freely available, and provide direct access to the original information resource.
