Scientific Summary No. 54, 2009

The international workshop on "Figures for Forests" held in Freiburg, Germany, in November 2008, was hosted by IUFRO 3.08.00 “Small-scale forestry” and the Confederation of European Forest Owners (CEPF) and organized by the Baden-Wuerttemberg Forest Research Institute (FVA). The purpose of the workshop was to bring together key researchers to discuss recent advances in new approaches and technologies concerning data collection, processing and presentation. Issues discussed included categorizing forest owner collectives, different data collection methods, the survey of multidimensional data as well as examples from the application of monitoring data analyses for documentation, forecasts and political agendas.
