IUFRO The Advocate for Forest Science.
The one-week Pre-Congress Training Programme organised by IUFRO-SPDC in cooperation with the Korea Forest Research Institute, the Korea Forest Service and various international partner institutions and networks will focus on four TOPICAL WORKSHOPS
(I) Forests and Climate Change;
(II) Traditional Forest Knowledge;
(III) Forests and Water Interactions; and
(IV) Forests and Human Health.
Each topical workshop is complemented by two additional TRAINING MODULES, one on SCIENCE-POLICY INTERFACING and one on INFORMATION MANAGEMENT. In addition, a half-day FIELD TRIP to the nearby National Arboretum, Forest Museum, and Experimental Forest of the Korea Forest Research Institute will allow participants to learn about forests and forest research in Korea.
In the Afternoon of the last day of the workshop week, all participants will get together in a KNOWLEDGE CAFÉ for concluding discussions on the way forward in forest- and tree-related research in a changing world.
In June, internet blogs have been created for each thematic workshop inviting participants to interact and get to know each other. They were asked to leave short comments and introduce themselves providing information about affiliation, country, professional background and current focus of work. In a second round they were asked to share their expectations towards the workshop and post comments on areas of research, issues and aspects that they are specifically interested in. This will help the trainers and resource persons to design the workshop content in a way that is most beneficial to the invited participants.
