IUFRO Spotlight #33 – Connecting the Dots among Forests, Soils and Water

IUFRO Task Force addresses knowledge gaps related to issues such as impacts of climate change, forest management and soil conservation on water supplies and contributes to 5-year Forests & Water Action Plan.

The specific aim for the recently established IUFRO Task Force on Forests, Soil and Water Interactions, coordinated by Professor Richard Harper of Murdoch University, Australia, will be to provide the basis for coherent management responses that build on an enhanced understanding of forest, soil and water interactions. These responses will also be informed by consideration of economic and cultural factors that affect adoption of new approaches and technologies.

The Task Force’s activities are also aimed at supporting the goals and objectives of the Five-year Forests and Water Action Plan, which will be launched during the International Forests and Water Dialogue at the World Forestry Congress, Durban, South Africa, on Tuesday 8 September - Wednesday 9 September 2015.
