Honorary Membership conferred upon Dr. Su See Lee at IUFRO Asia-Oceania Congress

Honorary Membership is the highest award of IUFRO and acknowledges individuals who have rendered particularly important and outstanding services to IUFRO.

It was during the Opening Ceremony of the 1st IUFRO Regional Congress for Asia and Oceania that IUFRO President Professor Mike Wingfield bestowed IUFRO's highest award upon Dr. Lee. In her thank-you speech, Su See Lee said that she was deeply honoured. As the first female IUFRO Honorary Member, she hoped that many more female scientists would follow in the future.

Dr SU SEE LEE, Malaysia

Vice-President of IUFRO, Management Committee member 2005-2014, Board member 2005-2014, Chair of Honours and Awards Committee 2006-2010, Review Panel member 2003-2004, recipient of the IUFRO Distinguished Service Award 2000, etc. Dr. Su See Lee has a long track-record of involvement in IUFRO which culminated in her service as Vice-President of IUFRO from 2010 to 2014.

During her Vice-Presidency, she focussed in particular on promoting interdisciplinary collaboration within IUFRO and with partner organizations through strengthening the work of IUFRO Task Forces on a number of key issues, such as climate change, bioenergy or biodiversity. Dr. Lee played a key role in developing a new procedure for establishing Task Forces within the IUFRO network and led a review the IUFRO Honours and Awards system.  Her model career in the highest ranks of IUFRO also encouraged other women and more particularly other female scientists from developing countries to become officeholders in the IUFRO structure. She fulfilled her role of IUFRO Vice-President in an exemplary fashion.

Dr. Lee had made exceptionally strong contribution to IUFRO and is well-qualified to join the illustrious group of IUFRO Honorary Members.
