In this issue you will find reports on such diverse topics as silviculture of mixed forests in Europe, global change and forest pathology, and global teak resources.


The workshop related to COST Action FP1206, European mixed forests - Integrating Scientific Knowledge in Sustainable Forest Management (EuMIXFOR), took place in Arezzo, Italy, on 28-29 May 2015, and involved IUFRO Working Parties 1.01.06 (Ecology and Silviculture of Oak) and 4.02.06 Resource Data in the Boreal and Temperate Regions). Presentations addressed the multifaceted perspectives of the functions and silviculture of mixed forests. The emergence of environmental and ecological values of mixed stands was highlighted, interactions among species were evaluated and, the management challenges were underlined.

The biannual meeting of the IUFRO Working Parties 7.02.02 (Foliage, shoot and stem diseases of forest trees) & 7.03.04 (Diseases and insects in forest nurseries) took place in Uppsala (Sweden) on 7-12 June 2015. Discussions focused on the current situation of both traditional and new pathogens and diseases which threaten forest stands and nurseries worldwide. New strategies to avoid their spreading were mainly addressed in the sessions on globalization and invasive species.

The 3rd World Teak Conference 2015 "Strengthening Global Teak Resources and Markets for Sustainable Development" was successfully held in Guayaquil, Ecuador, from 11-15 May 2015. The WTC 2015 focused mainly on economic, social, technical and environmental issues that have an impact on the production, marketing and trade of teak wood. In conjunction with conference, a Project Formulation Workshop on "Sustainable Management and Genetic Conservation of Planted Teak Resources" was organized by IUFRO-SPDC.
