IUFRO News Vol. 36, issue 2, 2007 informs about COST Action 639 'Greenhouse Gas Budget of Soils under Changing Climate and Land Use' (BurnOut) and looks at corresponding terminology issues. There is also a report about the First Iberoamerican Congress on Wood Protection in Venezuela, and a call to participate in the current online survey of the IUFRO Task Force on Communicating Forest Science. Furthermore, IUFRO congratulates Walter Bitterlich on his 99th birthday. Finally, upcoming IUFRO and non-IUFRO meetings are advertised.

Forests, bioenergy and climate change as well as the capacity of healthy and productive forests to mitigate climate change are the main topics of this issue.
This issue includes a report from the conference on “Old Forests, New Management” in Tasmania as well as an invitation to detail a PR and Communication Expert to IUFRO Headquarters for one year.
Two new IUFRO Occasional Papers are presented: No. 21 "Adaptations of Forests to Climate Change: A Multidisciplinary Review", and No. 20 "Communicating Forest Science: A Daily Task".
