IUFRO The Advocate for Forest Science.
Yesterday, 22 November 2011, IUFRO launched its latest communication initiative called "IUFRO Spotlight". Its aim is to introduce, in a timely fashion, significant findings in forest research from IUFRO officeholders and member organizations to a worldwide network of decision makers, policy makers and researchers. In the first issue entitled "Forest Research Matters" IUFRO President Niels Elers Koch presents the initiative to a wide readership.
IUFRO Spotlight #2 "Traditional Forest-Related Knowledge: Sustaining Communities, Ecosystems and Biocultural Diversity" highlights a new publication by IUFRO researchers that focuses on how indigenous and local communities have succeeded in adapting their forest management practices to climate change in ways that have ensured the conservation of forest biodiversity and food security. The book, Traditional Forest-Related Knowledge: Sustaining Communities, Ecosystems and Biocultural Diversity, was published by Springer just this month and constitutes the final report of IUFRO's Task Force on Traditional Forest Knowledge, led by the book's co-editor John Parrotta.
