The 9th Pacific Rim Bio-Based Composites Symposium co-sponsored by IUFRO 5.00.00 and 5.05.00 was held in Rotorua, New Zealand from 5 – 8 of November, 2008. The theme of the event was "Innovation and Challenges in Bio-based Composites – How Far to the New Frontier?" IUFRO News publishes a comprehensive meeting report. This issue also presents a report on the IUFRO 8.02.00 and 8.02.02 conference on "Biodiversity in Forest Ecosystems and Landscapes" held in Kamloops, Canada. With regard to forthcoming IUFRO Congresses, Congress awards for Seoul 2010 are described and the final call for bidding for 2014 is published. Furthermore, the results of the IUFRO benefits questionnaire are announced.
