IUFRO The Advocate for Forest Science.
IUFRO News, double issue 7&8 of 2009 reports about a workshop on forestry utilization in Mediterranean countries with particular respect to sloping areas held from June 17-19, 2009 in Reggio Calabria, Italy. There participants looked at the forest-related, social and economic characteristics of the Mediterranean region and at how they affect the forest management and the forest utilization systems. A second scientific summary deals with new modes of governance in forest and environmental policy, a topic that was discussed at a session held in the course of the 15th International Symposium on Society and Resource Management (ISSRM 2009) from July 5-8, 2009 in Vienna, Austria. Of course, this issue also informs about a series of new publications and upcoming meetings.
