Old forests – New Management, Hobart, Australia, 17-21 February 2008 –
Programme and Abstracts Book (PDF) – Scientific Summary (to be published at the end of March)
We have been approached by several groups interested in hosting meetings or having the Uneven-aged Silviculture Research Group serve as a co-sponsor for a meeting after 2006. These include the following countries:
Australia, John Hickey is involved in a potential meeting for fall, 2007 in Hobart. The meeting would focus on alternative silviculture in old forests with plenty of opportunity to discuss the role of uneven-aged silviculture.
Iran, Dr. Khosro Sagheb-Talebi has offered to host a meeting in northern Iran in either 2007 or 2008. Dr. Sagheb-Talebi hosted a very successful IUFRO meeting on beech silviculture several years ago.
Japan, Drs. Hiromi Mizunaga and Satoshi Ito have offered to host a meeting in Shizuoka. They offer the potential to provide interaction with our colleagues in Asia who are working on problems related to uneven-aged silviculture. The meeting is scheduled to take place late October 2007 to early November 2008.
We continue to look for opportunities to add to the geographical diversity in our Research Group and to involve researchers working on tropical forests. All three of these meetings would be excellent ways to pursue these goals. We would also like to hear other ideas regarding future meetings. Our timetable is to work toward a decision on our next post-2006 meeting early in 2006 and finalize some plans by our meeting in Quebec.
7-10 August 2007 in Portland, Oregon, USA. Conference title: Forest growth and timber quality: Crown models and simulation methods for sustainable forest management.
25-28 August 2008, in Umea, Sweden, Conference title: IUFRO Interdivisional Conference on "Adaptation of Forests and Forest Management to Climate Change"
2010, IUFRO World Congress, Seoul, Republic of Korea

Our Research Group co-hosted a session in the 2005 Congress in Brisbane, Australia called "Uneven-aged Silviculture: From Temperate to Tropical Forests". The session was cosponsored by IUFRO Unit 1.07.18 "Forest dynamics and yield regulation systems for tropical/subtropical moist forests". We had 7 papers presented and a number of posters. The session was extremely well-attended but was unfortunately assigned to too small a room to include everyone who wanted to attend.
