Analysis, design and continuous improvement of the facilities and networks of technical and transaction processes required to harvest and to transport biomass and/or non-wood products from the stump site to mill facilities.
Clusters of primary processes are (1) tree conversion, (2) off-road transportation, (3) material handling, and (4) on-road transportation. Classes of transaction processes are (5) procurement, (6) order fullfillment, (7) data exchange, and (8) system monitoring and control.
Mission and Goals
The mission of the Harvesting and Transportation Engineering Research Group is
to provide support and information to forest scientists and others interested in wood delivery through meetings, information discussions and newsletters, and by drawing attention to research needs and gaps in existing knowledge.
To do this the Research Group will:
-
Maintain a high profile by sponsoring or cosponsoring two or more
international workshops during each five year period;
-
Collaborate closely with any other Subject Groups in IUFRO
through joint meetings or research activities, to avoid overlap
and to ensure that IUFRO's wood transport operations are managed
as effectively as possible;
-
Collaborate with other organizations with similar aims in joint
activities;
-
Support active working parties on any relevant aspect of wood
delivery operations, closing down any that are redundant, in
accordance with Section VIII of IUFRO Statutes Article VIII
-
Strengthen the IUFRO activities by bringing together researchers
from developing and developed countries to optimize the use of
IUFRO's aims;
-
Encourage all its members to improve communication between IUFRO
groups, scientist and officers, by all means, including meetings
newsletters and electronic communication.
