IUFRO The Advocate for Forest Science.
The Global Forest Decimal Classification Unit is a dynamic, open, user-driven international community of individuals involved in forest-related research committed to improving access to forestry and forest-related information by maintaining, enhancing and applying a flexible, multilingual, hierarchical, controlled subject classification.
Using web technology to enable communication, we have updated the Global Forest Decimal Classification, adding 80 new terms and 100 extensions and corrections. The new paper edition of the classification is published [link to Publications] in English and German. Our next priorities are to produce updated French and Spanish versions including the new extensions and corrections. The GFDC Steering Group will be planning these and other activities in 2006. The unit’s database and associated toolkit for updating the classification is at http://iufro.andornot.com/gfdceditssearch.aspx
