About Unit

Working Party 6.11.05 (Ecological Economics in Forestry) provides a forum for research and international cooperation on the relationships, interactions, and interdependence between forest ecosystems and economic systems.  The ecological economics approach of this research group includes the normative goal of jointly sustainable economic and natural systems and the following key assumptions:

  1. economies are embedded in and dependent on larger natural systems,
  2. maintaining the health and integrity of natural systems is necessary for maintaining the health and integrity of economic systems, and
  3. trans-disciplinary approaches – integrating ecological, economic, and other perspectives – are required for the transition to sustainable forestry.

In order to promote international cooperation on ecological economics in forestry, this Working Party creates networks and communication between scientists and others worldwide by organizing workshops, conferences, and sessions at IUFRO events, as well as by publishing newsletters, proceedings, and other types of publications.
