The high rate of depletion of natural forests in the tropics implies that plantations will be a major source of wood in future. However, monoculture plantations particularly of indigenous species are highly vulnerable to pests. The Working Party's primary goal is to provide a platform for pest management specialists in the tropics to share experiences in the management of pests in tropical plantations and nurseries.
