IUFRO-WFSE Process

Print

Through its open network of researchers and experts from around the world the IUFRO-WFSE process promotes the exchange of multi-sectoral and cross-sectoral research results and scientific knowledge. IUFRO-WFSE critically analyses the crucial issues facing the forest sector at the global level and collates and updates scientific reference material for worldwide dissemination and distribution.

Dissemination material is also produced to enhance capacity development and to increase public awareness on the interface between forests, society and the environment.

The IUFRO-WFSE process is an innovative and unique effort, based on high quality, objectivity and scientific independence. The process consists of the following steps:

  • The identification of globally relevant topics of current and foreseen concern on the interrelations between forests, society and the environment.
  • The identification of recognised scientists and research groups to address these topics in multidisciplinary, collaborative groups
  • The preparation of objective assessments and critical analyses on the crucial global and regional forest-related issues.
  • The publication and dissemination of the outputs to a wide audience of policy makers and opinion formers, scientists, professionals, and the public.

Each step demands active discussions and debates among scientists in forest-related sectors, and also between scientists and policy-makers.
