IUFRO Spotlight #6 "Putting Experts to the Test"

The book Expert Knowledge and Its Application in Landscape Ecology provides insight into what expert knowledge is and how it can be applied for conservation and management-related issues.

This issue of Spotlight takes a look at the 2012 publication Expert Knowledge and Its Application in Landscape Ecology by Perera, Ajith H.; Drew, C. Ashton; Johnson, Chris J. (Eds.). The book takes scientifically rigorous methods of collecting and using expert knowledge that have been developed in other disciplines and then adapts those for use in resource management and ecology. It includes definitions, methods and many case studies from across North America and Australia. The book was produced partly because there is a need to structure the collection, analysis and use of expert knowledge so that it more closely adheres to the scientific method as practiced in empirical research.
