Membership of IUFRO is open to any institution concerned with the promotion, support or conduct of research related to forests, trees and forest products.
Forest operations engineering and management research aims at (1) understanding the fundamental principles that underlie the behavior of forest operations systems and at (2) developing concepts, methods and tools that support the design, control and management of these systems.
The basic research paradigm represents operations systems as flow networks and uses mathematical models to describe its behavior and to evaluate the efficiency, effectiveness and environmental performance of alternate policies, strategies, and practices. The operations core is a system that includes research, design, engineering, production within operating units, networks of information and material flows that tie operating units together, and the development, distribution and delivery of goods and services to customers.
