Global Partnership on Forest and Landscape Restoration (GPFLR)

https://www.forestlandscaperestoration.org/

IUFRO's involvement in the GPFLR started very soon after its inception by providing useful information on evolving initiatives and developments in global policies related to the restoration of landscapes. Following the establishment of the Bonn Challenge Policy Initiative on forest landscape restoration in 2011, IUFRO became more active in the network since FLR represents a comprehensive approach to forest and land management aiming for ecological, social and economic outcomes, unlike the rather narrow concept of REDD+ with a main focus on climate change mitigation and adaptation.

IUFRO's regular participation in the GPFLR meetings resulted in the establishment of closer cooperation with several members such as the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety (BMU), the World Resources Institute (WRI) and Wageningen University and Research (WUR). From 2013 until to date a number of well-funded projects and events in support of FLR have been implemented by IUFRO as a contribution to this global partnership. .

IUFRO is represented in the GPFLR Steering Committee by Deputy Executive Director Michael Kleine.
