The current Memorandum of Understanding between the WWF and IUFRO was signed at the 2019 IUFRO World Congress. The WWF and IUFRO have collaborated in the past, leveraging the capacities of the two organizations. Acknowledging the critical need to link science and policy to achieve transformation and enhance the contribution of forests to advance the global agendas of biodiversity, climate change and sustainable development, the WWF and IUFRO have agreed to a framework for formal collaboration to contribute to these global agendas together by connecting forest-related science, policy and communication.
The co-operation includes but is not limited to:
- Workshops to draw lessons on practices, approaches and interventions
- Joint efforts for synthesizing knowledge in prioritized areas for WWF and IUFRO
- Knowledge sharing between WWF initiatives and IUFRO Task Forces
- Joint seminars and panels in IUFRO-sponsored conferences and others
Joint activities:
- Five members of IUFRO Task Force "Transforming Forest Landscapes for Futures Climates and Human Well-Being" participated in a peer review panel providing feedback on a WWF report "Enabling factors to scale up forest landscape restoration: The roles of governance and economics" published in November 2020: https://www.iufro.org/publications/other-publications/article/2020/11/23/enabling-factors-to-scale-up-forest-landscape-restoration/
