Watershed Management and Afforestation in Charvak Reservoir Catchment

Overview and general information on the "Resilient Future Forests Lab" project in Central Asia.

Location:

Objectives:

The mountain ranges in Uzbekistan serve as main water sources for the country providing freshwater for human consumption and irrigation for agriculture. Restoring forests and tree cover in the Charvak Reservoir catchment will positively contribute to

  • Slope stabilisation and reduction in soil erosion protection the reservoir from siltation,
  • Reduced surface run-off and thus enhanced water conservation in the mountains, and
  • Establishing scenic forested sites for recreation of nearby cities and towns.

Progress of Work in 2021

  • Establishing the project concept
  • Selection of location and specific demonstration sites
  • Seedling Production
  • Public Engagement
  • Climate and Hydrologic Modelling
