IUFRO News Vol. 42, Issue 9, early October 2013

This issue highlights opportunities for the forest sector to meet future demands for resources and looks at future needs to better understand complex impacts of abiotic and biotic factors on forests.

At the IUFRO Task Force conference on Resources for the Future, hosted by the University of British Columbia, Canada, 120 policy makers, researchers, industry leaders and NGOs discussed four major themes: implications of globalization for forests, plantations, bioproducts and advanced building systems and forest ecosystem services. The mission of the 26th biennial conference of the IUFRO Research Group 7.01.00 'Impacts of Air Pollution and Climate Change on Forest Ecosystems' in Brazil was to stimulate research collaboration between the northern and southern hemispheres with special emphasis on ecosystems of the southern hemisphere. This issue of IUFRO News also reports about other important IUFRO conferences and includes a series of announcements concerning open positions, publications and upcoming IUFRO and non-IUFRO meetings.
