Take a look back at the 3rd IUFROLAT Congress and related events and read about meetings on topics such as mountain forests, beech forests, planted forests, agroforestry, and tree biotechnology.

This double issue of IUFRO News presents a wrap-up of the successful 3rd IUFRO Latin American Congress (IUFROLAT III) held 12-15 June, San José, Costa Rica under the theme of "Forests, Competitiveness and Sustainable Landscapes". It also highlights events related to the Congress such as the IUFRO-SPDC pre-Congress training course on communicating forest research and the IUFRO Board meeting where, among other things, a decision to recommend Brazil as host for the 2019 IUFRO World Congress was made.

You will also find in-depth meeting reports on a variety of subjects, ranging from forest operations in mountainous terrain to European primeval beech forests, tree biotechnology issues, planted forests and agroforestry. A series of announcements including awards for scientific achievements, vacant positions, recent publications, and upcoming IUFRO and non-IUFRO meetings rounds off this extra-long edition.
