This is a modification of the Interim Resource Inventory Glossary was prepared by the U.S.D.A. Forest Service, Washington Office Resource Inventory Coordination Task Group established by the Deputy Chiefs for National Forest System and Research in 1984. It covers terms needed for the management of the timber, wildlife and fisheries, recreation, rangeland, water, soil, land, and mineral resources of the National Forest System Lands. Most of the definitions, measurement rules, and standards presented in this report were taken from existing U.S.D.A. Forest Service Regional or Station direction.
