"Keep Asia Green" - Volume IV
West and Central Asia
In the final phase of the Keep Asia Green Publication Project forest rehabilitation issues in six countries of West and Central Asia are addressed. These countries include Iran and Turkey in West Asia as well as Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in Central Asia.
The forests in West and Central Asia represent a diverse array of forest landscapes ranging from coastal forests, wetlands and lowland forests in temperate zones to arid and semi arid ecosystems as well as watershed areas in high mountain regions. According to preliminary discussions with the authors forest rehabilitation takes place in the context of very different socio-economic situations and include afforestation on barren land in semi-arid areas; tree plantings to combat desertification; rehabilitation of forests for flood prevention and protection against avalanches; management of burned forests, conservation of biological diversity, stand management of fruit tree forests, establishment of fast growing tee plantations and rehabilitation of natural Spruce and Juniper forests.
The results of the comprehensive analysis of forest rehabilitation in the region will be published as IUFRO World Series Volume 20-IV: Keep Asia Green IV "West and Central Asia". The lead authors who are coordinating the country contributions are provided in the list below.
