IUFRO and UNFF: The Role of Science in Global Forest Policy Development

The United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF) was established in 2002 as a subsidiary body under the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). IUFRO is an accredited observer organization in the UNFF. Through a number of joint initiatives in the Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF) , IUFRO supports the work of the UNFF and provides thematic contributions to the Forum’s sessions.

On the 1st of May 2017, delegates from the Member States, UN agencies, Major Groups, observer organizations and other stakeholders will come together for the 12th session of UN Forum on Forests. As in the previous sessions, IUFRO sends its delegation to the session.

Dr. Vira was the Panel Chair of the IUFRO-GFEP Expert Panel on Forests and Food Security. Dr. Parrotta and Dr. Powell were both members of the Expert Panel and among the authors of the GFEP report titled “Forests, Trees and Landscapes for Food Security and Nutrition - A Global Assessment Report”, launched in 2015.
