According to the World Bank, more than 780 million people live below the international poverty line of US $ 1.90 a day. Around 75% of the poor inhabit rural areas, in many cases regions of high forest cover.

How do forests and tree-based landscapes affect poverty and wellbeing of the poor? What processes and conditions related to forests constrain or enable the reduction of poverty?

The Global Forest Expert Panel on Forests and Poverty will answer these questions and many more in their report, to be launched in autumn 2020.

The project is supported by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ), the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland (MFA) and the United States Forest Service (USFS).
