IUFRO is a one of three scientific members of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF). Within the CPF, IUFRO serves as lead agency for forest-related scientific knowledge together with the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF). IUFRO is also one of the very few non-governmental organizations in the CPF. As a member of the CPF, IUFRO plays a major role in informing and shaping international forest-related programmes and policies.

IUFRO currently leads and coordinates one CPF Joint Initiative: the Global Forest Expert Panels (GFEP). IUFRO has previously also served as the CPF Vice-Chair. IUFRO is represented in the CPF, including in its regular meetings, by its President John Parrotta with support by IUFRO HQ staff.

Joint activities:

IUFRO President John Parrotta Chairs the CPF Consultative Group in support of organizing the XV World Forestry Congress in May 2022. In his capacity as Chair of the Consultative Group, John Parrotta also has a seat in the Advisory Committee for the XV World Forestry Congress.

IUFRO Operations Manager Andre Purret Chaired the CPF Working Group on developing the CPF Work Plan 2021-2024. The new Work Plan was finalized in March 2021 and launched by the CPF Chair at the 16th session of the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF-16) in May 2021.

IUFRO leads and coordinates one Joint Initiative of the CPF, i.e. the Global Forest Expert Panels Initiative. More information about their newest ongoing global assessment on Forests and Human Health can be found on the dedicated assessment webpage.

IUFRO is one of the four co-leads of the new CPF Joint Initiative on Forest Education. The Initiative builds on the joint IUFRO-ITTO-FAO project "Global forest education platform".

IUFRO-SPDC undertook two activities in the frame of the CPF Joint Initiative on Forest Landscape Restoration: a) organized an online course on forest landscape restoration for scientists and practitioners in Latin America; and b) developed learning materials jointly with ITTO based on "The ITTO Guidelines for FLR in the Tropics" and the "IUFRO Practitioner's Guide on Implementing FLR".

IUFRO contributed to drafting and finalization of two joint CPF statements: a) Towards sustainability: forest solutions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic (press release on 12 October 2020); and b) Challenges and Opportunities in Turning the Tide on Deforestation (press release on  27 April 2021).
