The Forestry and Forests Products Research Institute (FFPRI) of Japan and IUFRO signed a Memorandum of Understanding in August 2018. FFPRI and IUFRO have cooperated and disseminated information that links with global issues for a sustainable society since 1905. The MoU aims to identify further opportunities for collaboration, knowledge generation and knowledge sharing.

During its history of over 110 years, FFPRI has been conducting interdisciplinary research on forests, forestry, the timber industry, and tree breeding with a view towards realizing a sustainable society. FFPRI aims to co-design and collaborate more with diverse stakeholders (international organizations, government officials, industry leaders, educational institutions, forest owners, beneficiaries of ecosystem services, and future generations).

  • IUFRO Japan Newsletter:
    The IUFRO-Japan (IUFRO-J) Committee, http://www.ffpri.affrc.go.jp/labs/iufroj/index_Eng.html published IUFRO Japan News on a regular basis. It is an organization launched in 1970 to promote global and domestic partnerships in forest-related research; it cooperates with IUFRO Headquarters.

  • 2020: Joint Publication: Forest Education in Japan -Historical Review; Current Forestry Practices, Forest Management, and Wood Processing Education; and Future Expectations

  • 2019: FFPRI was among the sponsors of the IUFRO World Congress in Curitiba, Brazil
