FAO and Reforestamos Mexico are aiming at identifying innovative forest centers within Latin America. This initiative seeks to strengthen the development of capacities among the young populations (between 14 and 20 years old) of the region who are about to choose their profession or are already at the upper middle level. You are invited to complete the survey available in English, Spanish and Portuguese. This survey is aimed at professionalization and forestry technification centers (prevocational and vocational) and/or universities that have this type of center. Thank you for your participation!

Submissions are invited for a Special Issue of 'Forest Policy and Economics'.

Forests are the focus of attention for multiple stakeholders with differing demands. Forest policy research points out that communication is crucial for effective stakeholder and conflict management. However, most research done so far in forestry-related science misses to point out which aspects make communication better and more effective. This Special Issue will draw upon scientific, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research, combining perspectives from social science, interpersonal communication, public relations, linguistics and media analysis with existing forest policy research. The combined findings will provide a differentiated picture of the "how", "what" and "to which effect" of public communication on forest issues in Germany.

We will shed light on the profound impacts of wildfires and tremendous costs to the BC population, emphasizing that the 2017‒2023 fire seasons were not an anomaly but a new and escalating reality fueled by climate change.

The Chair of Silviculture, Freiburg University, offers once again the International Forestry M.Sc. programme, starting October 2024. The programme teaches knowledge and competencies to graduates aiming to work in fields that tackle complex issues of forest management and its linkages with sustainable development. The programme provides students with an overview of global forest resources and their use, as well as a profound understanding of different forest ecosystems types and their management options and potentials. Students will acquire the ability to analyse and assess the institutions and processes influencing forests and forestry from local to global levels and will acquire competencies for the analysis and management of forestry systems.

FORWARDS will launch around five grant calls with a total value of EUR 6 million to fund 50 projects to set up the ForestWard Observatory. In the first round of grant calls to be launched in July, five projects will be funded for establishing new Climate-Smart forestry and forest restoration trials. Each project will be granted with up to EUR 150,000. Successful applications will result in projects that are expected to commence around the beginning of 2024, with a duration of maximum 18 months. Subsequently during the year and until the project end, FORWARDS will launch many more calls to fund projects across different themes.
