Read an interview with IUFRO President John Parrotta, get updated on the IUFRO World Day preparations, find a series of new publications, interesting meeting reports and upcoming meeting announcement!"The global forest science community possesses a deep understanding of the complexities of forest systems, and their relationships to the broader socio-ecological systems in which they exist. We are currently well-positioned to utilize what we have learned through generations of research and its practical application worldwide to support and inform decision-makers and land managers", said IUFRO President John Parrotta in a comprehensive interview.
IUFRO is very excited about the forthcoming IUFRO World Day - Digital Forest Science Forum 2021, and extremely grateful to all the IUFRO scientists and colleagues who have embraced this great challenge and will organize a live session and-or present recorded or static information about their current and future forest-related research activities and opportunities. Thanks also to the Austrian Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Regions and Tourism (BMLRT) for kindly sponsoring the event.
The topic of the new scientific assessment of IUFRO's Global Forest Expert Panels (GFEP) Programme is "Forests and Human Health". Several studies have concluded that nature, particularly forests, contribute to physical and mental well-being and can notably improve human health. Forests can act as a buffer that maintains well-being, provides resources (e.g., food and medicine) and services such as air purification or recreation, especially in urban areas, potentially reducing exposure to environmental diseases and other hazards.
Find reports on a wide array of topics such as social innovation, RIL-C, ecosystem restoration in Asia, traditional forest knowledge, and nontimber forest products. Read about latest publications such as "Building a Successful Forestry Career in Africa", a "Guide to Forestry-Based Entrepreneurship" in Latin America", or a "Guide to Forest–Water Management" and much more.
