Join a high-level event on forests and sustainable production and consumption on 21 March, International Day of Forests! Read about research on marketing and sustainable production of forest products!

The theme for this year's International Day of Forests (IDF) on 21 March is "Forests and sustainable production and consumption", accompanied by the slogan "Choose sustainable wood for people and the planet." It supports the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and stresses the need to change unsustainable patterns of consumption and production and reduce the carbon footprint of materials.

Join the hybrid event "Inspire for the Future – The Role of Forests in Ensuring Sustainable Production and Consumption" at the Swedish Pavilion at Expo 2020, Dubai, on 21 March. The event is jointly organized by FAO, IUFRO and IUFRO World Congress 2024 | Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU).

Read interviews with IUFRO Division 5 Research Group Coordinators Anne Toppinen and Rick Bergman and find out, among other things, what consumers expect from forest products, especially wood, how they can be sure to buy wood from sustainable sources, and why international and transdisciplinary cooperation is important.

See key messages from the first IUFRO-MONDI Partnership Think Tank Meeting addressing "Climate change impacts on forests in the Pan-European region and response options for the forest-based sector". The IUFRO-Mondi partnership is a science-business platform to better understand climate change impacts on forests and to identify response measures in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Reports from a range of current and recent activities of IUFRO Units and Member Organizations as well as announcements of new publications, position vacancies and upcoming meetings round off this newsletter issue.
