Call for Submissions - Special Issue on Digitalization of forest operations

in the International Journal of Forest Engineering
https://www.tandfonline.com/journals/tife20/collections/TIFE_DigForOps_2024

The core question addressed within this special issue is how digital automation and IT-based applications can be used and made applicable to benefit the wood supply chain. Current forest operations digitalization research focuses on many aspects, such as the use of scientific visualization to enhance forest planning but also to support the dialogue between different stakeholders, the implementation of new statistical inventory methods that integrate big data sources and the further development of IT-applications which facilitate the assessment of extreme disturbances. Many research groups work on specific processes along the wood supply chain, including digital measurement of wood piles and automation of forest operations in isolation. With this special issue, the editors aim to bring these topics under one umbrella showing the status of current research.

3rd International Hybrid Symposium of Forest Engineering and Technologies (FETEC 2022)

"Forest Transportation Solutions and IT Applications for Natural Disaster Management"
online and Baku, Azerbaijan; 28-29 November 2022. Units involved: 3.00.00, 3.01.00

As one of the most important natural resources, forests have vital functions such as improving biodiversity, preserving soil, protecting water, and providing services to society. In order to maintain these functions, forest should be planned and managed by considering social, economic, ecological, and sociocultural factors. In recent years, natural disasters caused by abiotic factors result in serious biological and ecological damages on forest ecosystems while threatening the human life. The most effective natural disasters may include forest fires, winter storms, floods, landslides, and avalanches.

In order to minimize the detrimental effects of natural disasters, advanced information technologies (ITs) such as GIS, RS, ICT, IoT, etc. should be used in planning and implementing of natural disaster management activities. Besides, forest roads, providing important benefits of accessing forest areas, should be designed and constructed considering the natural disasters.

Mark your calendars for the virtual IECF 2020!

Forests for a Better Future: Sustainability, Innovation, Interdisciplinarity
Virtual Conference; 15-30 November 2020

Forests and forestry activities provide an opportunity to address the pressing challenge of climate change through sustainable production. Forests also play a strategic role in mitigating critical issues, including biodiversity conservation, water regulation, energy efficiency, pollution reduction and mitigation, production of raw biological materials, food safety, and human and ecosystem health and poverty.

The conference will discuss the state of the art of forestry operations, wood supply chains, and ecosystem services, and objectives for the future will be sought. Sharing and discussing the latest research findings with the global community of scientists in the field of forests is the central purpose of this virtual meeting.
