3.00.00 - Forest Operations Engineering and Management
2nd IUFRO Division 3 Doctoral Student Conference
Corvallis, Oregon, USA; 29 September - 3 October 2022
Students, mark you calendars!
IUFRO Division 3 and Oregon State University will again host a Doctoral Student Conference in Corvallis, Oregon, USA. Encouraged by the grand success of the first IUFRO Division 3 Doctoral Student Conference in 2016, the host team again aims to foster networking and a strong global community of future research scientists in the fields of Forest Operations and Engineering.
The Conference will be student-oriented and provide a platform for attendees to present their research. Conference attendees will have many opportunities to network, share insights, advance their knowledge, and make new friends. Designed for youthful and energetic future research scientists, the conference will offer many socializing events. Guided field trips will also be offered to visit coastal and central Oregon, and OSU’s Research Forest.
Special issue of International Journal of Forest Engineering - Call for Papers
The International Journal of Forest Engineering (http://www.tandfonline.com/toc/tife20/current#.U2is9GeW2UQ) is currently soliciting papers for a Special Issue entitled “The role of Forest Operations in climate change affected forests". Dr. Janine Schweier, of the University of Freiburg (Germany), is serving as Guest Editor for this issue.
Growing attention is being given to forest, agriculture and wood based bio-products in both policy and science, because these products are renewable, biodegradable, capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, have a wide range of utilisation and thus, support the main goal to reach a sustainable and a climate neutral economy and society. However, the environment is already affected by significant changes in climate patterns worldwide which leads to the use of more challenging, more complex and thus more expensive biomass and bioenergy supply chains; for example when machines cannot access forest stands due to wet summers or winters and the operations must be carried out motor manually and with cable-yarding systems.
The core question addressed in this Special Issue is how climate change impacts will affect timber harvesting and extraction operations in the future.
