Global Landscapes Forum Bonn 2018
IUFRO at the Global Landscapes Forum 2018
Bonn, Germany, 1 and 2 December 2019
World Conference Center, Platz der Vereinten Nationen 2

IUFRO will participate in a Learning Pavilion and will co-host a Discussion Forum.
Learning Pavilion
Throughout 1-2 December, a series of highly interactive mini-workshops will take place at the Pavilion. IUFRO will particularly contribute to an "FLR learning needs assessment" on the basis of the "FLR practitioner's guide" as a collection of FLR tools on the ground.

Discussion Forum: Don't ignore drylands: Restoring the forests of Continental Asia
Hosts: International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) with National Institute of Forest Science, Republic of Korea (NIFOS), Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR)
Date/Time: Sunday, 2 December 2018
Time: 09:00-11:00
Room: Nairobi 1-2
About the session:
Recently, countries in the Caucasus and Central Asia made a commitment to bring 2.5 million ha into restoration under the Bonn challenge by 2030. The demographic, economic, environmental and climatic changes that take place in the region clearly warrant accelerated action. This session, led as a moderated dialogue, will revolve around the ways and means to implement forest landscape restoration on the ground, from policy to practice, in specific countries.

Stanturf, Promode Kant, Jens-Peter Barnekow Lillesø, Stephanie Mansourian, Michael Kleine, Lars Graudal, Palle Madsen: https://www.iufro.org/publications/series/world-series/article/2015/12/01/world-series-vol-34-forest-landscape-restoration-as-a-key-component-of-climate-change-mitigation/
Drawing on state-of-the art scientific knowledge through analysis of restoration case studies and review of scientific literature, IUFRO scientists developed a framework to demonstrate how forest landscape restoration (FLR) can contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Adaptive measures: integrating adaptive forest management and forest landscape restoration
Spathelf, Peter, John Stanturf, Michael Kleine, Robert Jandl, Donato Chiatante, and Andreas Bolte. Annals of Forest Science, 75: 55. 2018. https://doi.org/10.1007/s13595-018-0736-4
Adaptive Forest Management (AFM) and Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) do not contradict – ecosystem integrity and health are benefits and central goals in both concepts, and thus can be integrated.
