The IUFRO Directors’ Forum (Research Group 6.06.00) serves as a global platform for directors of forest research institutes and deans of forest faculties of universities to exchange views, share experiences and discuss strategies for the future. At its meeting in Washington D.C. USA, from 18-19 April 2007, the forum focussed on the role of managers in forest research and the need for research organizations to use their resources more efficiently.
Globalization has brought about major changes in the process of setting the forest research agenda as agenda development is becoming an increasingly strategic process for forest research institutions. In addtion, knowledge management is gaining in importance for the improvement of efficiency of forest research institutions. However, many research organizations face financial constraints.
