Professor on the macrostructure of wood materials // 4 March 2019
A position as full professor on the macrostructure of wood materials is open at the Department of Forest Biomaterials and Technology. The position has a connection to Treesearch, a national platform for new materials and speciality chemicals from the forest. The research area concerns the influence of growth factors on trees for properties of wood raw material and its connection to the desired properties of final products. The definition of the term "macrostructure of wood material" refers not only to stem wood and other parts of the tree, but also to processed material (e.g. sawn timber, chips, sawdust). Research related to the variability in wood properties is central as well as the sorting methodology to achieve more homogenous materials. The research area also includes methods to detect and quantify such properties. The successful candidate is expected to be able to apply own and others results on questions relevant for the forest industry, for instance in the use of forest based raw material for new products, and in a circular bioeconomy. Particular emphasis will be placed on the applicant's scientific skills, in which wide subject coverage is ranked higher than narrow specialist knowledge.Institution: Department of Forest Biomaterials and Technology, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU)
