Lecturer in Bachelor of Urban Forestry program // 8 March 2019

The Department of Forest Resources Management at the University of British Columbia-Vancouver campus invites applications for a Lecturer (term appointment) to play a leading role in the teaching and coordination of the Bachelor of Urban Forestry (BUF) undergraduate program. The lecturer will lead or co-lead courses in areas such as urban forest design, planning and management, plant materials, planting design, landscape planning, and other related areas appropriate to the incumbent’s expertise. In addition, the lecturer will provide coordination and support for field schools and community engagement. Courses to be taught may include Introduction to Urban Forest Design (UFOR 201), Trees and Shrubs in Landscape (UFOR 316), Urban Forestry Field School (UFOR 400), Integrated Urban Forestry Capstone Studio (UFOR 401), or others as designated within the BUF curriculum. The lecturer will also support the Program Director in managing, promoting and developing the Bachelor of Urban Forestry program, and provide assistance for the Minor in Landscape and Recreation Planning and the Minor in Greenspace Management. The incumbent will have the opportunity to play a key role in delivering Urban Forestry summer courses and short courses at partner universities in China and elsewhere. Teaching will include the development of on-line material, classroom-based lectures, seminars and project work, field-based exercises, new or revised courses, supervision of Directed Studies, and student mentoring. The lecturer will be expected to take a lead in student evaluation and curriculum development.
