In its aim to strengthen research institutions and scientists in economically disadvantaged countries in their ability to generate and deliver high quality scientific information, IUFRO-SPDC offers training workshops on scientific methods, research management, science communication and science-policy/society interactions.
Latest Training Workshops held
From 31 May 2021 to 25 June, 2021 an online course was held in Spanish on the practice of forest landscape restoration. This course was based on IUFRO's publication “Guía para practicantes: Implementación de la Restauración del Paisaje Forestal” (Stanturf et al. 2017) and was carried out by experts from CATIE and the World Resources Institute (WRI) - both of these institutions are actively involved in the initiative 20x20 on Forest Landscape Restoration in Latin America. Following the model of the successfully held training workshop on Systematic Evidence Evaluation on Forest Landscape Restoration another workshop on this important subject was held from 22 to 26 March, 2021.
The IUFRO Special Programme for Development of Capacities (IUFRO-SPDC) in collaboration with the University of Oxford, United Kingdom, organized a one-week online training workshop on systematic evidence evaluation addressing the broad theme of “Forest Landscape Restoration”.
The workshop was again directed at early and mid-career scientists from economically disadvantaged countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America working on research issues related to FLR.
IUFRO-SPDC in collaboration with the University of Oxford, UK, held its first online training workshop - Systematic Evidence Evaluation on Forest Landscape Restoration - from 12 to 16 October, 2020. The workshop was directed at early and mid-career scientists from economically disadvantaged countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America working on research issues related to FLR.

In the week prior to the XXV IUFRO World Congress four TRAINING WORKSHOPS on
(I) Forest Research Methods;
(II) Systematic Reviews in Forest Science;
(III) Implementing Forest Landscape Restoration in Africa and Asia; and
(IV) Implementing Forest Landscape Restoration in Latin America (in Spanish)
were taking place in parallel sessions. Workshops I, II and III were in English while Workshop IV was conducted in Spanish. Each workshop was led by a senior scientist from the IUFRO network specialised in the respective workshop theme.
